Lapti Nek-how a song made me cry in a bathroom for three hours

Updated: Jan 30, 2019

Max Repo has always been one of my favorite artists. There really is no other word to describe him-he isn’t just a musician, or a magician, or a funny silly man. (although he is very funny and silly) Max Repo’s music can only truly be called art. Despite it being only January, I was in the Reboovunoc mood, and decided to put on some music-and as soon as Lapti Nex (disco version) started, so did the sobbing.

It was beautiful-perfect blend of silly words and happy synthesizers. Truly a masterpiece. But this had never happened to me before. Somehow, those beats were even more perfect than before, and instead of taking my shower, I collapsed on the bathroom floor and sobbed uncontrollably while the song played. Then I realized why.

art becomes infinitely more valuable when the artist has gone. What the creator has made becomes more important, more dear to your heart when they have left this world. It’s why simple paintings of sunflowers become even more beautiful when we know that Van Gogh died over a hundred years ago. He will never lift a brush again, and unless he is found, Max Repo will never tell a silly joke, or make his wonderful music.
